2026 Somos Scholarship Application
Application Requirements / Requisitos de aplicación:
- Applicants must be current 8th- or 12th-grade Acero scholars enrolled for the 2025-26 school year.
- 8th-grade scholars must be on the “B” honor roll, and 12th-grade scholars must have a GPA of (x) for the spring 2026 semester to qualify.
- Participation in community organizations, after-school clubs, or other student organizations is not required to apply, but is encouraged and considered in the application.
- Applicants must submit an essay with their application, relevant to this year’s prompt.
*Scholars with IEPs who submit an application and essay are eligible to be selected for the Somos scholarship or the Georgette Vosmer Scholarship.
*8th-grade Scholars who submit an application and essay that demonstrates an interest in STEM are eligible to be selected for the Somos Scholarship or the Argonne Opportunity Scholarship.
Essay Requirements/Requisitos del ensayo :
900 words minimum for high school graduates, 600 words minimum for eighth-grade graduates. Students are welcome but not required to supplement essay submissions with visual art, videos, poetry, or other creative work to provide visual accompaniments for their essays. Items should be scanned or photographed.
Any essay that does not meet the minimum word count requirements will be disqualified.
Note: All essays will be screened for plagiarism and AI. Submitting an essay that is not your original work may result in disciplinary action.

Community is at the core of Acero Schools and the families we serve. We are our community.

Who is one person or organization that inspires you and makes your community stronger? How do they support the community? Why do they inspire you?
Examples of organizations: Boys and Girls Club, school clubs, sports teams, or other community groups.
Person examples: A family member, friend, teacher or public figure who brings people together and strengthens your local community.
