Claudia Castro

Claudia Castro (she/her/hers), recently joined Acero Schools as our new Chief Legal Officer. Claudia will oversee all legal, labor and policy matters supported by her team including Bianca Saviano, Joshua Herzog and Melinda McGinley. She is also responsible for managing Acero's outside legal counsel.

Claudia has more than 15 years of legal expertise. She previously worked with the Cook County Government handling labor and employment law matters. Prior to her work with Cook County, Claudia worked at the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) as an assistant legal counsel where her work focused on educator misconduct cases and civil rights issues affecting Illinois students. She has also worked in private practice and as a legal educator.

She began her legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office where she prosecuted criminal and civil cases. Claudia also served as the General Counsel in Springfield for the Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault where she assisted in the Constitutional Amendment to the Crime Victims Bill of Rights.

She has received many accolades including being named as one of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin’s "Forty Illinois Attorneys under 40 to Watch" and was recognized as “Who’s  Who in Hispanic Chicago 2017” by Negocios Now. 

Claudia earned a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Loyola University of Chicago and a Juris Doctor, with a Litigation Concentration, from Western Michigan University's Thomas M. Colley Law School.

Claudia has a fantastic daughter. When she’s not working, Claudia likes to play the violin, is a bookworm, practices pilates and spends time with her family, friends and adorable cats.
